I have limited experience with distance learning aside from quarantine and the Covid-19 pandemic. But this wasn’t so much distance learning as it was online learning. Aside from stronger reliance on Canvas, Teams, and Zoom the only new technology/app I used during that time was Flipgrid. Flipgrid is similar to iMovie, and it allowed me to create videos and share them with my teachers and classmates. While I have used Google Docs more often in college, I think using them in middle school and high school would have been helpful. Since Google Docs are living documents, they allow for more interaction. Same idea with the platform Miro that we use in class from time to time. I think online and distance learning has the ability to isolate students at times and interactive documents and activities help to lessen the divide while also making lessons more inclusive and engaging for different learners.
Assignment 4 was extremely helpful in expanding my PowerPoint skills. I had never learned how to add audio over a PowerPoint prior to this assignment. Nor did I know how to add Alt Text to the images to increase the accessibility of a slide show. I didn’t get to add as many animations as I wanted to, which is something I can work on for future assignments. However, I did learn that animations can be set to run automatically which is super helpful. Unfortunately, I decided to adhere to the minimum requirement of 2 slides with animations but I’m looking forward to experimenting more with animations for Assignment 5.
As for any lingering questions I have about this course, I am curious about the reasoning behind two consecutive PowerPoint assignments. I’m really excited to create a Jeopardy Board for Assignment 5 but I’m wondering why it must be made in PowerPoint. I feel like there are definitely websites where you can make your own Jeopardy in a simpler way. Nonetheless, I’ve enjoyed acquiring new technological skills in this course and I’m happy to create a thriving game regardless of the form.
